On a credit card transaction, can a business also require an imprint for a transaction over $100?

A local retailer (this is in California, they sell cd's, dvd's, records) has a company requirement that if a customer makes a credit card purchase over $100 that in addition to swiping the credit card, checking the driver's license, and having you sign a receipt ALSO requires a physical imprint of the credit card. Is this legal? What would stop them from processing the physical imprint receipt at a later date?|||All perfectly legal. It sounds like they have had problems in the past with charge backs. With an actual imprint, they have proof the card was present. Makes it easier to win charge back disputes.|||Yes it's legal, the point being you are not required to shop there.
