If you close your bank account what are your rights if the bank makes transactions after that date?

Someone I know closed their banks accounts as they were moving abroad and have now found that the bank has been paying direct debits etc. after the date the account was closed. What are there rights if any?

Thanks|||they shouldve notified the companies which the direct debits were paid to and told them you were closing your bank account and could you make alternative payment arrangements.

At the end of the day they have no rights where the bank was concerned because closing the account would not cancel the direct debits, so yes they would be paid.

They now need to find out whats been paid and what hasnt, sort that out, then go back to the bank and cancel them and pay back any money they now owe the bank|||firstly the person that closed there bank account should also have cancelled their direct debit but if their bank account was closed they shouldn't have made any transaction on the account the banks think they can get off with anything these days tell them to get advise good luck|||I agree with Terence. Closing a bank account does not cancel direct debits. They have no rights against the bank, but they should speak to the recipients of the Direct Debits if they think these should not have been paid.|||What does it matter? It's not his money.
